The 50 Best Steakhouses in New Jersey
New Jersey has a deeper steakhouse bench than it gets credit for — old-guard dining rooms that have served the same cuts for half a century, casino flagships in Atlantic City, and suburban rooms that quietly out-cook Manhattan. We scored the state's steakhouses on the critic canon (40%), Google ratings weighted by review volume (35%), and heritage and geographic spread (25%), then ranked the composite.
Then we did the part most ranking sites skip: we verified all 50, one by one. Thirteen names from the first draft failed the check — three had permanently closed (including a well-known waterfront restaurant that shut its doors in May 2026), eight were excellent restaurants that simply aren't steakhouses, one was listed in the wrong town, and one could not be confirmed as still operating. Every one of them was replaced with a verified steakhouse. Atlantic City earns 10 of the 50 spots on merit — no other NJ city comes close to that density at this level.

How we rank
Ranked on food quality, consistency, service, and diner reviews — 2026 composite.
Before any scoring, every candidate passes our existence gate: confirmed open, operating at the location listed, and showing recent activity. Anything closed, moved, or mislabeled is removed — no exceptions, no grandfathering. Weights and sources are published on our methodology page.
Notes & corrections
This list is re-verified before it is posted anywhere, and spot-checked on a rolling basis — steakhouses close, sell, and change names (one entry on this list was replaced after its original location was sold and rebranded). If you spot a change we haven't caught, email [email protected] and we will correct the record publicly. If it's listed, it exists.
