The 50 Best Steakhouses in Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania runs two great steakhouse cities and a deep bench behind them — Starr's Philadelphia dining rooms and Pittsburgh's North Shore flagships at the top, then the Lehigh Valley, Hershey, Harrisburg, Lancaster County, Erie, and the Poconos. We scored the state's steakhouses on the critic canon (40%), Google ratings weighted by review volume (35%), and heritage and geographic spread (25%), then ranked the composite. Barclay Prime takes #1; Hyde Park Prime carries Pittsburgh at #3; Devon's Hershey dining room earns #4 on the strength of more than 11,000 diner reviews.
Then we did the part most ranking sites skip: we verified all 50, one by one. Twelve closed names were killed along the way — including Willoughby's on Park in Wyomissing, Berks County's premier steakhouse until it closed for good in March 2026, and Lancaster's Stockyard Inn, a landmark that shut in 2021 and still appears on 'best of' lists today. Three restaurants on this list trade under new names — the Chop House at Wind Creek (formerly Emeril's Chop House), Oldestone in New Hope (formerly Marsha Brown), and Lititz's Kōle Chophouse (formerly Blackworth) — and all three are listed under the name on the door today.
How this ranking was built — and what got cut
Seventy-three named steakhouses were examined across Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, King of Prussia, the suburbs, the Lehigh Valley, the Poconos, Central PA, and Erie, and every finalist ran the same gate as our New Jersey list: exists, currently open, in the Pennsylvania town listed, genuinely a steakhouse — steak as the house headline, not a steak on a general menu — with activity inside roughly the last 90 days. The final 50 verified 45 clean, 4 after label corrections, and 1 with a disclosed concept note. Zero failures on the published list.
Twelve closed names were killed with dated evidence. The Palm's Philadelphia location closed March 10, 2020 after 31 years. Chart House Philadelphia closed November 30, 2024. Martorano's Prime in Fishtown closed in February 2025, and Rocco's at the Brick in Newtown closed abruptly in November 2025. Lancaster's Stockyard Inn closed in 2021 and still shows up on steakhouse listicles. The textbook trap is Willoughby's on Park in Wyomissing: its owners announced on February 24, 2026 that the last day would be March 14, 2026 — yet review sites still display full hours and '2026 reviews' for a restaurant that has not served a meal in months. Two kills came with a twist: Davio's and Morton's Philadelphia locations are closed, but their King of Prussia and Pittsburgh locations are separate, active businesses, and those are the ones ranked.
Three entries appear under names you may not recognize, because the name on the door changed: Chop House at Wind Creek in Bethlehem was Emeril's Chop House, Oldestone in New Hope was Marsha Brown, and Lititz's Kōle Chophouse was Blackworth Live Fire Grill. We list the name a restaurant trades under today. One concept call is disclosed rather than hidden: State College has no entry. Its best-known room, The Tavern (open since 1948), is a classic American restaurant where steak is not the headline — so the slot was left empty instead of filled with a famous name in the wrong category. Leola's Log Cabin (#46) is the mirror-image call, included with a disclosed note because steak is co-headline in the house's own positioning.

How we rank
Ranked on critic canon, Google ratings weighted by review volume, and heritage & geographic spread — 2026 composite.
Before any scoring, every candidate passes our existence gate: confirmed open, operating at the location listed, and showing recent activity. Anything closed, moved, or mislabeled is removed — no exceptions, no grandfathering. Weights and sources are published on our methodology page.
Notes & corrections
One honest gap: State College has no entry. Its best-known dining room, The Tavern (open since 1948), is a classic American restaurant whose own positioning is not steakhouse-first, and no dedicated steakhouse in town passed our concept test — so the slot went to a verified steakhouse elsewhere rather than a famous name in the wrong category. One entry, The Log Cabin in Leola, carries a disclosed concept note in our research file: steak shares its headline billing with seafood, which is why it ranks where it does.
This list is re-verified before it is posted anywhere, and spot-checked on a rolling basis — steakhouses close, sell, and change names (three entries on this list are renames we caught during verification). If you spot a change we haven't caught, email [email protected] and we will correct the record publicly. If it's listed, it exists.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best steakhouse in Pennsylvania?
Barclay Prime in Philadelphia ranks #1 — the critic-canon leader in Philadelphia, verified active with current booking and review activity in October 2026. It leads a list scored on critic canon (40%), Google rating weighted by review volume (35%), and heritage and geographic spread (25%).
How was this ranking made?
Seventy-three candidates were scored on the published food weights — critic canon 40%, Google rating weighted by review volume 35%, heritage and spread 25% — and gated on existence, current operation with activity in roughly the last 90 days, correct Pennsylvania town, and a genuine steakhouse concept. Twelve closed restaurants were killed in verification; none of the published 50 failed.
Is The Palm in Philadelphia still open?
No. The Palm's Philadelphia location, at the Bellevue on South Broad Street, closed on March 10, 2020 after 31 years. It is excluded. (Other Palm locations elsewhere are different businesses; this list covers Pennsylvania only.)
Is Willoughby's on Park in Wyomissing still open?
No. The owners announced the sale on February 24, 2026, with a last day of Saturday, March 14, 2026, and the closure is confirmed in local reporting and listing status. Review sites still showing its hours and fresh '2026 reviews' are displaying stale aggregator data — the kind of trap this verification pass exists to catch.
